How to find a secret room
Use the same five-step routine in every generated combat room:
- Clear every enemy. Wait until explosions, projectiles, and hit sounds stop covering the wall.
- Walk the full boundary. Inspect each wall face and the decorative border along its upper edge.
- Compare neighboring tiles. Look for a crack, broken line, mismatched cap, color shift, or pattern that stops repeating.
- Stand close and attack. Strike the suspicious section several times and move slightly along the edge if necessary.
- Recheck before leaving. A projectile may already have opened a passage during combat even when the map shows no connecting line.
Empty space beyond a wall is only a reason to inspect it. The strongest clue is a visual mismatch combined with a different impact sound or a visible wall response.
Where the crack can appear
| Hidden-room direction | Inspect here first | Typical clue |
|---|---|---|
| Above the current room | Wall face and upper border | A crack or interrupted pattern may cross both surfaces |
| Left or right | Upper cap of the wall tile | One cap, brick, branch, or edge does not match its neighbors |
| Below | Lower-facing boundary and its upper decorative edge | An irregular section changes after repeated hits |
| Any direction | Entire suspicious wall segment | Different hit sound, wall reaction, or passage already opened during combat |
Do not attack every wall indefinitely. Clear, compare, test the strongest mismatch, then continue the run when the section does not respond.
Secret-room clues by floor
These are pattern-recognition examples, not fixed map coordinates.
| Floor | Area | What to compare | What the opening looks like |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Mole Stronghold | Repeating stone cap along the top of the dark wall | A vertical passage appears through the wall |
| 2 | Woodlands | Branch-like wall pattern and any broken repetition | The blocked section becomes a long green passage |
| 3 | Library | Decorative stone border rather than the dark area above it | A vertical stone corridor appears |
| 4 | Wasteland | Rocky boundary partly hidden by scenery | A red portal can confirm the opened route |
| 5 | Rooted Cave | Irregular stones along the lower edge | A downward blue corridor becomes visible |
Floor 1: Mole Stronghold
The dark wall face can hide the useful clue. Compare the repeated stone cap along the upper edge and test the section where its rhythm changes.
Floor 2: Woodlands
The entrance blends into branches and foliage. Compare the blocked section with the branch pattern immediately beside it instead of waiting for a doorway outline.
Floor 3: Library
Focus on the decorative masonry and cap tiles. The useful mismatch can sit in the repeated border rather than in the dark wall space.
Floor 4: Wasteland
Dead trees and rocky scenery can obscure the suspected section. Approach it directly so attacks do not hit scenery at an angle. A red portal is a strong confirmation that the route opened.
Floor 5: Rooted Cave
Compare stones along the lower boundary. When successful, the irregular edge becomes a clearly visible downward corridor.
How to open a suspicious wall
Stand close and attack the same section more than once. Some weapons or entrances do not make the response obvious on the first hit. Shift a short distance along the edge, then attack again after combat effects disappear.
Listen for different impact feedback. A changed hit sound or wall reaction is more useful than an empty-looking space on the map. Do not require a map connection line; community reports say a route can be open without one.
Library Secret Study after Mad Scientist Erma
This is a special unmarked passage rather than an ordinary cracked wall. After defeating Mad Scientist Erma, cross the bridge into the room with the table. Walk directly into the wall immediately left of the table near the bottom-left side. There is no visible crack and the wall does not need to be attacked. The dark area reveals itself after you enter and contains a lore interaction.
Pocket Dimension is a different event
Pocket Dimension is a separate rare event with its own room and items. It is not opened by attacking a cracked wall, so do not count it when estimating ordinary secret-room spawns or rewards.
If you are working toward the Traveler achievement, look for an ordinary cracked-wall room rather than assuming Pocket Dimension satisfies the same condition. No reliable current 1.0 probability is available for the Pocket Dimension event.
Possible secret-room rewards
Normal secret rooms can contain run utility, currency, experience, or a build-changing item. These are possible rewards, not one guaranteed bundle.
| Reward | Recorded use |
|---|---|
| Dice | Reroll item rewards; older records show 1–2 |
| Random consumables | Older records show two consumables in some rooms |
| Random Artifact | Listed as rarer than ordinary utility rewards |
| Mystic Pot | Deposits up to three Artifacts and combines them into one Tablet |
| Leaves | Community records show varying old ranges rather than one current fixed amount |
| Experience | A small amount of EXP; no current exact amount is verified |
The Mystic Pot is not automatically beneficial. Compare the three Artifacts being consumed with the Tablet and inventory space the current build needs before accepting the trade.
Historical consumables shown in secret rooms
| Item | Effect in the archived Compendium |
|---|---|
| Focus Potion | Recover 20% MP |
| Apple Juice | Heal 1 HP for 30 seconds |
| Nebbiolo’s Stubbornness | +4 Physical Damage |
| Tempradillo’s Passion | +4 Fire Damage |
| Ugni Blanc’s Mist | +4 Cold Damage |
| Malbec’s Depth | +4 Lightning Damage |
These values are useful for recognizing the old items, but the current in-game tooltip should decide whether to use them.
How many secret rooms spawn?
There is no verified fixed total, per-floor rate, per-run cap, or current 1.0 spawn probability. Older reports of finding one or two rooms describe individual runs, not a rule. Failing to find a room on one floor does not prove a bug.
Secret rooms FAQ
Why did one hit not open the wall?
Stand closer, shift slightly along the same wall segment, and attack several times after combat effects disappear. Some openings do not give obvious feedback on the first hit.
Why is there no map connection?
An opened secret passage may not draw an obvious connection line. Recheck walls hit by projectiles during combat before leaving.
Are secret rooms only in Hard Mode?
No. Archived community reports document secret rooms outside Hard Mode, although not every generated room or floor contains one.
Are the floor examples fixed locations?
No. They teach what the wall patterns look like in each area. Generated layouts still determine the actual position.
